The Mahoosuc Mountain Range is a 27,253-acre section of Maine public reserve land. Known locally as the The Mahoosucs, and named after the Mahoosuc Indians, in these mountains the hiking is rugged and strenuous but the scenic rewards are incredible. The Appalachian Trail traverses much of the range and AT hikers often cite the stretch between Goose Eye and Old Speck Mountains as being one of the most mentally and physically challenging sections of the entire 2158 Maine to Georgia route. With gigantic boulders, drop-offs, loose footing and skinny passageways, this one-mile stretch can be seen clearly from most of the Mount Will home sites.
